We are currently recruiting for an Executive Director:

Position Title: Executive Director

Organization: House of Bread

Location: 9 Orth Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45402

Reports to: Board of Directors

Position Overview:

The Executive Director (ED) of House of Bread is responsible for the overall leadership,
management, and operation of the organization. The ED will advance the mission of House of
Bread to provide free meals, hospitality, and related services to those in need. This individual will
work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and community partners to
ensure the sustainability and growth of the organization’s programs and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Management:
    • Provide visionary and strategic leadership to House of Bread, aligning all activities
      with the mission and goals of the organization.
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations, including program development, service
      delivery, and administration.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive organizational culture that promotes collaboration,
      transparency, and respect.
  1. Board Relations:
    • Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic
      plans, policies, and goals.
    • Report regularly to the Board on the organization’s progress, financial status, and
      other key metrics.
    • Assist in identifying, recruiting, and onboarding new Board members.
  1. Program Development and Management:
    • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all House of Bread
      programs and services.
    • Ensure that programs are aligned with community needs and the organization’s
      mission.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with partner organizations to enhance service
      delivery and community impact.
  1. Fundraising and Resource Development:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure financial
      support from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government sources.
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and grant-making
      organizations.
    • Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events and campaigns.
  1. Financial Management:
    • Oversee the financial health of the organization, including budgeting, accounting,
      and reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with all financial policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Work with the Board Treasurer and finance committee to develop and monitor the
      annual budget.
  1. Community Engagement and Advocacy:
    • Serve as the primary spokesperson for House of Bread, representing the
      organization to the media, community groups, and other stakeholders.
    • Advocate for the needs of the individuals and families served by House of Bread.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, organizations, and
      agencies.
  1. Human Resources Management:
    • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff and volunteers.
    • Promote a positive work environment that encourages professional development
      and growth.
    • Ensure compliance with all employment laws and organizational policies.
  1. Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure that House of Bread complies with all applicable local, state, and federal
      regulations.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of risk management policies and
      procedures.
    • Ensure the safety and security of all staff, volunteers, and clients.
  1. Evaluation and Reporting:
    • Develop and implement systems for tracking and evaluating the effectiveness of
      programs and services.
    • Prepare and present reports to the Board, funders, and other stakeholders as
      required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, social services, business administration, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit organization, with seven or more years preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Passion for the mission of House of Bread and commitment to serving those in need.

Compensation:

  • Compensation and benefits are commensurate with experience.
